Cancer developing in the urinary bladder is generally treated by cystectomy surgery. The surgical procedure involves the partial or complete removal of the urinary bladder. In case of complete removal of the urinary bladder, it is likely that a few other organs such as seminal vesicles and the prostrate in men and ovaries and the uterus in women, may also be removed. The introduction of laparoscopic technology in numerous specialities has helped in precision of surgical methods and shorter recovery times for the patients.
Laparoscopic radical cystoprostatectomy (LRC) is now a very promising surgical option. Robot assisted laparoscopic cystectomy takes this one step further to make a complex surgery into a successful one.
