Doctors successfully perform life-saving Aortic Surgery at Care Hospitals in Bhubaneswar

In a remarkable medical achievement, surgeons at Care Hospitals in Bhubaneswar executed a rare and complex aortic surgery on October 7, 2024, successfully saving the life of a 30-year-old female patient diagnosed with Type-A aortic dissection, which extended from her chest to abdomen.

The patient, Pragyan Smita Sahoo, faced a life-threatening condition that necessitated immediate and highly specialized intervention.

Following a comprehensive evaluation by a team of experts, it was determined that the intricate procedure was the only viable option.

According to Dr. Suvakanta Biswal, Senior Consultant in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, the procedure involved replacement of dissected aorta and arch with the valve and reimplantation of Coronary and neck vessels.

“This surgery is exceedingly rare and carries a significant risk. It requires specialized expertise and a prolonged duration. Our team of surgeons, anesthetists, and operating room staff collaborated seamlessly to ensure the patient's safety and the procedure's success,” he said.

The surgery lasted approximately ten hours, showcasing the team's unwavering commitment and effort. The patient experienced a smooth recovery and was discharged on the sixth postoperative day, added Biswal.

A family member expressed gratitude, stating, “I am immensely thankful to Dr. Suvakanta Biswal and the anesthesia team, Dr. Manoranjan Padhi and Dr. Dharmajeevan Samantray, as well as the entire medical team.”
